Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®  chartered its first chapter in Ghana, Alpha Delta Psi Omega, on January 16, 2026, in Accra, expanding its presence in Africa and marketing a significant milestone for the historic Black sorority.  This new chapter joins existing graduate chapters in Liberia, South Africa, and Nigeria, strengthening AKA’s global reach through sisterhood and service, with members already engaging in community projects like book donations and tree planting.

On this special day, January 15, 1908, nine phenomenal women at Howard University lit a spark that grew into a vibrant, global sisterhood.

From Miner Hall to the world, we now stand over 390,000 strong across 15 nations including the U.S., Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, UAE, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, the Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, and West Africa united in purpose, service, and sisterly love.

As we continue to Soar to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood®, we honor the extraordinary legacy of our founders and celebrate the generation of women who carry their vision forward.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® chartered it’s first chapter in Puerto Rico, Alpha Delta Nu Omega, in San Juan, marking a historic expansion into a Spanish-dominant Latin American region, with accomplished members already serving the community through initiatives such as childhood hunger relief and health screenings.

More than 10,000 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® members converged on Anaheim, California for their international Leadership Seminar, July 9-16.

Under the theme “Pathways to SOAR: Unlocking Impactful Leadership,” the conference developed and enhanced lifelong leadership skills for members ranging from college students to professionals and retirees.

AKA is America’s oldest service organization founded by college-educated African American women.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® would like to celebrate our sister Allyson, a proud USC alumna and the most decorated woman in Olympic track and field history.  She has been named to the 2025 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame!

From 2005 to 2021, she made history with 11 Olympic medals, including 7 gold, showcasing unmatched excellence, grace, and perseverance.  Her legacy continues to Soar!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and under our “Empower Our Families” program initiative, we’re standing together to prioritize wellness in every household.

This month, we’re using our collective power to shine a light on mental health, break the silence, and encourage open conversations around emotional well-being – especially when it comes to depression, anxiety, and the impart of unresolved trauma.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® now has a stunning monument at Howard University – right in the “Valley” where our beloved Sisterhood began!

This beautiful tribute celebrates 115 years of sisterhood and service, made possible by the incredible sisters to gave in 2023 to mark our anniversary and milestone year.  A mini version lives at our Ivy Center in Chicago, but this full monument is home where our AKA legacy was born.

As part of this moment, we also gifted $1.9 million to Howard University to support future leaders through the AKA Leadership Fund.  Talk about impact!

Thank you to every sister and supporter who made this happen.  Your name is engraved on the back, just like your love for AKA.  Special thanks to Kline Memorials, PUSH Studio, and Howard University for helping bring this dream to life.

May this monument shine as a symbol of our strength, sisterhood, and service for generations to come!
