Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Set to Make a Global Impact in Greenville
WHO: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated South Atlantic Region
WHAT: More than 5,000 members will collect gently worn shoes to benefit Soles 4 Souls, and recycled glasses for the Lions RECYCLE for Sight initiative.
WHEN: 4:30 p.m. on April 13, 2019
WHERE: Greenville Convention Center, Hall 2
WHY: Alpha Kappa Alpha members will engage in programming designed to enhance the international footprint of the sorority under Target 5, Global Impact. During the 66th South Atlantic Regional conference, members will also make donations to two organizations:
Lions Club International. Members and guests are encouraged to bring gently used eyeglasses. This eyeglass initiative is designed to prevent blindness, help restore eyesight, and improve eye health and eye care for millions of people around the world by donating used eyeglasses in partnership with local Lions Clubs.
- Soles 4 Souls. Members and guests are encouraged to collect gently-worn shoes and bring them to the conference drop off location.
mission is to create sustainable jobs and provide relief through the distribution of shoes around the world.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated began on the campus of Howard University under the vision of nine college students. Since then, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of nearly 300,000 college-trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership domestically and internationally.
The South Atlantic Region, led by Regional Director, Carolyn G. Randolph is home to 17,000 members from 175 chapters from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
