Voter Engagement Plan of Action
The purpose of the Mid-Atlantic Region’s Voter Engagement Plan of Action is to provide sorors in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a comprehensive voter engagement framework to activate their chapters and communities around the November General Election.

Goal(s):
- “4 or more in 2024”:
- The goal is to take four or more people with you to the polls in 2024 activating your chapter and community.
- Dedicate four or more hours towards volunteering, phone banking, canvassing, and/or registering voters.
- Maximum the volunteer strength of the region to increase voter registration and the sorority’s presence and civic engagement in the community.
- Diversify our in-reach (internal) mobilization efforts to educate sorors about key election deadlines and critical voting information (i.e. personalized phone texting and postcards, formal presentations and educational tabling at Cluster Meetings and Undergraduate Leadership Institute).
- Diversify our outreach efforts toward voter mobilization and education (i.e. HBCU homecomings).
- Establish impactful partnerships with other non-partisan organizations with a history and legacy of voter engagement to include but not limited to the Divine Nine, NAACP, National Urban League, NC Black Alliance, to increase our organizational capacity to educate and empower our communities and turn out the Black vote in record-breaking numbers.
Call to Action
All chapters and members of the Sorority are called to S.O.A.R. to the Polls and attain our collective goal of 1,908,000 voter contacts by doing the following:
Strategize
- Create and implement a voter registration and verification plan (minimum goal to register/verify based on chapter size)

- 1,908+ attorney members and other members train and prepare to serve as poll observers on election day

Key initiatives
- Townhall: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region “Connection and Social Action Election Ready Townhall” is designed to ensure sorors in the Mid-Atlantic Region are informed on how they can actively engage around the November General Election. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to: Voter Registration, Social Media Engagement, Candidate Endorsements, Paraphernalia, Risk Management, and Protocol.
- Rally: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region “M.O.V.E.’n Forward Together” Virtual Voter Engagement Rally is designed to get Sorors and the general public excited to S.O.A.R. to the polls in the November General Election. The rally framework will include but not be limited to remarks from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Sorors serving in various elected capacities in North Carolina and Virginia, individuals with varied experience in grassroots organizing, music, trivia and live polling, and more.
- Pledge Card: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region “Voter Engagement Pledge Card” will be available in both digital and print forms and is designed to:
- Encourage a commitment to voting in the November General Election
- Ensure Sorors and their households have a dedicated plan to vote to include a date and transportation; and
- To mobilize Sorors across social media.

- Election Worker Recruitment: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region Election Worker Recruitment drive is designed to encourage sorors to volunteer as election, poll, precinct, and campaign (candidate and issue-based)* workers leading up to the November General Election.*Additional guidance available in the Connection and Social Action Resource Guide.
- Weeks and Weekend of Action: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region “Voter Engagement Weeks and Weekend of Action” are designed to encourage sorors in activating their communities around the November General Election. Events will include but not be limited to early voting in coordination with local NPHC chapters and voter education.
- Voter Engagement Postcard: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region voter engagement postcard is a sisterly correspondence from Madam Regional Director, Nadine Vargas Stewart, to educate sorors about the various ways in which they can become civically engaged with voter registration efforts in their chapters and around their communities.
- Cluster Meeting Tabling and Presentation: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region will provide a table at every cluster meeting specifically designated to provide education and resources to our sorors about critical voter information for the November General Election. Additionally, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region will present a formal presentation created by the International Connection & Social action committee and will supplement this presentation with additional voter information specific to North Carolina and Virginia.
- Undergraduate Leadership Institute: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region will conduct a formal workshop educating undergraduate sorors about key voter information and election deadlines to ensure that our undergraduate sorors vote in record numbers in the November General Election.
- Voter Engagement Paraphernalia: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region will create voter engagement paraphernalia (t-shirts, buttons, and yard signs) to be available for purchase which will increase our civic footprint in our communities.
- Watch Party: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Mid-Atlantic Region will host a virtual party for sorors to watch election results of the November General Election.
