Soror Gabby Thomas has established herself as one of the world’s premier sprinters, excelling in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Her legacy was cemented when she became the second-fastest woman in history in the 200-meter, first setting a time of 21.61 seconds at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, then improving it to 21.60 seconds at the 2023 USATF Championships. Her impressive accolades include a gold medal in the 200-meter final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, making her the first Ivy League graduate to win an Olympic track and field medal. In addition, she won multiple Diamond League championships (2018, 2019, and 2024), and a 2018 NCAA title in the 200-meter.
Her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was impressive, securing individual and relay medals and establishing herself as a world-class sprinter on the biggest stage in athletics earning bronze in the 200-meter final (21.87 seconds) and silver in the 4×100-meter relay final as the anchor leg runner. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Soror Thomas went on to win gold medals in both individual and relay events. She dominated the 200-meter final with a time of 21.83 seconds, and three days later secured another gold as part of the victorious U.S. 4×100-meter relay team.
Soror Thomas graduated from Harvard University in 2019 with a degree in neurobiology and global health while setting numerous records and achieving myriad awards and honors in track and field. Following graduation, she achieved her master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She is an advocate for diversity in STEM fields and uses her platform to encourage young people, especially young women of color, to pursue careers in science and technology.
