110th Anniversary Commemoration (Washington, D.C.)
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you to the 110th National Founders’ Day in Washington, D.C. The city is the birthplace of our beloved organization and where Soror Ethel Hedgeman Lyle created the vision of Supreme Sisterhood that we all enjoy today. We can take pride in knowing that nearly 300,000 sorors continue to be of “Service to All Mankind” 110 years after her vision became a reality.
For eleven decades, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has played a pivotal role in advancing and advocating for improved academic, professional and civic pathways for youth, women, and families. Today, our steadfast commitment to being of “Service to All Mankind” remains at the forefront of our programs of service, connection activities, and illustrious sisterhood. In 2018, our members represent the very best in fields such as education, medicine, law enforcement, business, community leaders and scholars. I commend you for being outstanding examples for the entire world to see, but more importantly for being servant leaders that deliver high impact, hands-on service for those most in need.
I am confident that the 110th National Founders’ Day celebration will be one of your most cherished Alpha Kappa Alpha memories to date. During this weekend, you will cry, laugh and connect with many sorors as we enjoy all that has been planned for this extraordinary occasion. The sisterly fellowship begins now!
Sincere appreciation to Soror Tracy Baker, Chairman, sorors on the Founders’ Day Host Committee from both the North Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic Regions, Howard University and Alpha Chapter for the hard work and effort put forth to make this commemorative celebration another historic event.
Whether you have traveled from near or far, please know that your attendance means the world to me. This commemoration is our time as Alpha Kappa Alpha sisters to bask in the apple green and salmon pink glow. Take this time to reflect, rededicate and have fun while in our nation’s capital. Happy 110th Founders’ Day!
Welcome to the 2018 National Founders' Day!
Every time we think of the number "110" it gives me chills. How does one measure 110 years of existence? The lives touched, the communities served, the movements and moments, which changed history and brought us to this point in time, is something to behold.
In turning 110 years old, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is in the company of General Motors, Converse and the Hoover Company. What ensures that a brand will survive 110 years? A commitment to excellence!
We would like to thank the Host Committees for all of their hard work. They have worked tirelessly to "suit" this historical milestone event in its proper "Pink and Green Couture" and we hope that you enjoy the weekend. We must all capture this precious moment, embrace it, and cherish that we have come together for this moment in time.
Also, we would like to thank our Supreme Basileus, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, for the opportunity to serve.
I welcome you to experience Howard University and Alpha Chapter in all that it is, real and relevant in 2018. We share a great enthusiasm and reverence for this historic weekend in Washington, D.C. Please explore, enjoy and experience.
Again Sorors, welcome to the District of Columbia, the nations capital, welcome to Howard University, the Black Mecca; and welcome to Alpha Chapter, the birthplace of our sisterhood.
