Meredith L. Henderson
North Atlantic Regional Director
Meredith L. Henderson, a 29-year member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was elected to serve as the 2014 – 2016 North Atlantic Regional Director at the 83rd North Atlantic Regional Conference in April 2014. She is the 33rd Alpha Kappa Alpha woman to hold this position.
Ms. Henderson was initiated into the sorority in 1985 via Omicron Nu Omega chapter in Ithaca, NY. She is currently a proud member of Delta Mu Omega Chapter in Albany, New York, where she has served as chapter President, Parliamentarian, Corresponding Secretary and she most recently served as the Graduate Advisor to the undergraduate members of Pi Kappa Chapter at the State University of New York-Albany. Additionally, Ms. Henderson has served on the sorority’s International Connection Committee and as the elected North Atlantic Region representative to the International Nominating Committee.
Professionally, Ms. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration from the University Center at Binghamton in Binghamton, N.Y. Currently, she holds the position of Chief of Staff in the New York State Senate, where she oversees the overall management, administration and operations of her state senator’s offices in Albany and Southeast Queens, N.Y. Previously, Ms. Henderson served as the Deputy Secretary for the President of the New York State Senate, the first African-American and first woman to serve in the position.
During a career spanning nearly three decades, Ms. Henderson has held key positions in the private and public sector. She has managed political campaigns on the local, state and national levels and remains very involved in “Get Out the Vote” efforts. She is a former trustee of the New Covenant Charter School in Albany, has served as President of the Urban League Guild, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the NAACP of Albany. She is a member of the A.M.E. Zion Church of Newburgh, where she is a lifelong member of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society.
Ms. Henderson resides in Albany, New York.
