Martha L. Perine Beard

International Parliamentarian

Martha L. Perine Beard was appointed as International Parliamentarian at the 66th Boule of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the 25th woman to hold this position, serving from 2014-2018.

Martha L. Perine Beard was initiated into Alpha Pi Chapter at Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) in Atlanta Georgia. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Mrs. Beard holds a B.A. in business from Clark Atlanta University and a Master's degree in economics from Washington University. She also completed special studies at Harvard University and Yale University.

At the local level, she has held offices in Gamma Omega Chapter in St. Louis, Missouri and Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter in Memphis, Tennessee. Nationally, she served as International Treasurer from 1990 to 1994, Central Regional Director from 1994 to 1997, and Treasurer of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Housing Foundation from 2006 to 2010.

Professionally, Beard recently retired as Vice President and Regional Executive of the Memphis zone of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. She was responsible for the Federal Reserve’s operations in west Tennessee, east Arkansas and north Mississippi.

An active member of the community, Mrs. Beard is active in various civic organizations and currently serves on several boards of directors. She is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mrs. Beard has been profiled in several magazines and newspapers in the Mid-South and received numerous awards for her community involvement.

Mrs. Beard is married to Savoyd Beard and is the mother of three children.
