Kasey A. Coleman is an undergraduate student at Michigan State University pursuing a Chemical Engineering Degree on a Pre-Medical Track. While pursuing her interest in medicine, she has conducted research for two years at both the University of Iowa and Vanderbilt University. Her research has consisted of studying “Magnetic Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Doxorubicin Drug Delivery” and “Exploring the Effects of Loading on Immunostimulatory Potency in 2’3’-cGAMP Nanoparticulate Formulations.”
Kasey has had the honor of serving in many leadership positions that have allowed her to serve her community and grow closer to the multi-dimensional leader she strives to become. Within the sorority, she has served as Delta Zeta chapter Treasurer, Parliamentarian & Standards Chairperson. In 2017, she was selected as a Leadership Fellow of the 38th cohort, a program launched in 1979 as a concentrated 3-tier initiative with the following objectives: Alpha Kappa Alpha leadership development, professional career development, and personal development.
Outside of the sorority, Kasey has served with Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated, and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). In Jack & Jill, Kasey championed efforts on gun control and #BringBackOurGirls while serving as Mid-Western Regional Teen Parliamentarian & Legislative Liaison, and Mid-Western Regional Teen Vice President from 2012-2014. Kasey has been an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers since 2014, and has held leadership roles on the local, regional, and now national level. As a former chapter Programs Chairperson at Michigan State University, she expanded her leadership experience to serve two terms as the Region IV Secretary—serving 6 midwestern states, Central Canada, Central Africa & East Africa—and one term as National Secretary for the 2017-2018 program year. On this $15 million dollar organization’s board of directors, Kasey managed the Marketing & Communications Department, which was responsible for brand management and all communicative efforts to external corporate affiliates and their membership. She also made history by developing and launching “NSBE Now!” the first ever application (app) exclusive to the organization.
Kasey lives by the following quote attributed to her late father Allen M. Coleman: "If a task is once begun, never leave it until it's done. Be the labor, great or small, do it well or not at all.”
