Mid-Atlantic Regional Director
Joyce Henderson was elected to serve as the 2014-2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in March 2014 at the 61st Mid Atlantic Regional Conference. She is the 18th Alpha Kappa Alpha woman to serve in this position.
Joyce Henderson is an Army veteran and Life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated who has served her country and the Sorority with distinction.
She has served in numerous leadership roles in the Sorority, including International Standards Chairman. She was a member of the Sorority’s first Leadership Task Force and served on the Mid-Atlantic Regional Anti-Hazing Task Force.
In recognition of her service, she has received the Outstanding Graduate Advisor Award from the Far Western Region, the Barbara K. Phillips Leadership Development Award, the Leah K. Frazier Award, and the Graduate Leadership Award.
She is a member of Zeta Chi Omega Chapter in Arlington, VA, where she has served as President and Membership Chairman. She was initiated in 1975 at Alpha Beta Chapter at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, GA.
A retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, she was featured in the Sorority’s “Heritage Series” showcasing African American Females in the military. She spent 23 years as a military career human resources officer. Her culminating assignment was as chief military personnel officer where she responsible for all personnel and administrative matters for soldiers assigned at U.S. embassies around the world. She also was employed as a civilian employee serving in the capacity as a Transformation Strategist and Lean-Six Sigma Practitioner for the Department of the Army and Department of State.
Ms. Henderson holds a Bachelor’s in Business Education and a Master’s in Management from Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. She resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
